Notes on coding

My coding was focused on people’s perceptions of the most important issues.

• Some issues which might connect to CS:
  • cell phone policies
  • social media bullying/drama
• Survey responses
  • there’s a big division between people who want more transparency and accountability, and those who want the district to have strong leadership or resist pressure from parents. I interpret some of this as different views of how to achieve equity, but to some extent I think it reflects people who feel included in district decision-making and others who do not.
  • Different attitudes toward discipline (echoing ed reseacher article)

Political analysis: District leadership seems to be captured by a self-serving regime. The teacher’s union has outsized influence on school board elections. How could this be changed? The mechanism for this is school board endorsements. I wonder whether voter’s forums could help change this.

Gems

People touch heavily on diversity and inclusion yet push children with religious beliefs aside. My child should be able to celebrate Jesus anywhere.

The students and some very vocal parents who use the newspaper are trying to run the schools, teachers and admin need to be boss! Great example, now kids can wear hats/do rags at the high school. The bad kids who wouldn’t listen last year WON, the admin gave up!!

Don’t bend the knee to the current political climate of cultural Marxism

Administrators are afraid of parents. We need someone who utilizes families but also isn’t afraid to stand up to a parent and support their teachers.

A Superintendent needs to be able to be strict with parents and not placate them. Especially when it comes to who misbehave. This is necessary because students who are allowed to remain undisciplined, or very minimally disciplined interrupt the learning of other students.
