CTE is a state-by-state decision on implementation, supported by Perkins or Vitea. In NYS,
In TX, if a course is designated as CTE, that exists at a course level. In NYS, you cannot have standalone CTE courses; they must be part of a state-approved pathway. And teachers would need a CTE designation.
A lot of districts sign over their Perkins money to BOCES.
- Every student needs to be on a standards-complete CS pathway in K-12.
- Every community needs age-appropriate deep learning opportunities.
How do we create a workforce for both of these?
Districts are looking for langauge to share.

Goals
- Fund and Hire a New York State Computer Science Education Supervisor at NYSED
- Create a State Plan for Computer Science Education
- Activate the Governor’s Office for Communication about Computer Science Education
Look at Asa Hutchinson’s advocacay.
States with a strong urban center came in first with equity. States without the bifurcation didn’t have this pattern inequity. These states have been more effective in coalescing around a state-level narrative.
