UB BPS Collaboration Proposal

Meeting Notes 2021-05-03

  • Structurally, we’re looking at a model of a combination of “pushing in” and “pulling out.”

  • There is no clear vision at the state level. The rubber only meets the road when there are assessments attached.

  • Push-in as a co-teaching model. Can we improve proficiency rates on the state tests?

  • Use computing to connect math and E/LA.

  • John: twofold problem in literacy:

      1. Need for differentiated instruction at younger grades
      1. Large increase in reading volume across all grades
  • Project-based learning; disciplinary approaches

  • Suzanne: When I mentioned CS, the first thing BPS said is, “Well, where is this going to fit?”

  • No excellence without equity.

  • Summer train-the-trainer models. Paid. Summer.

  • Chris & Ryan: Think a little bit more about how to effectively communicate what this concept is: Textual and computational literacies for equity and excellence.

Proposals

  • Develop interdisciplinary computing curricula.
