Stakeholder meeting notes
Meeting 1
- Adrienne: Consider two waves of CS teachers. AP CS Teacher community is first
wave; second wave is CS4All, ECS folks interested in CS. How to market this
program to first-wave teachers who just need the cert?
- Chris: Yes, but first wave may be grandfathered in, and CSTA conversation
suggests more audience for advanced cert in second wave. Plus, speaking
generally, first wave teachers might benefit from some reframing of CS.
- Kylie: In teaching teachers, emphasize teaching students with different levels
of experience with technology. For example, many students have no experience
pressing “save” on a file because they use web apps.
- Adrienne: In response to Chris bringing up the possibility of committing to a
particular curriculum, “Don’t get in bed with a provider.”
- Adrienne: CSE 115 is not the right course. 503 was designed as a grad
substitute to 115, not sure what its current context is. Either way, if we
want content coverage we will need something more.
- Chris: content coverage without technical treatment schoolifies CS.
- Kylie: In training TA’s to teach intro CS, teaching debugging strategies is
crucial.
- Chris: This will be a particularly important issue for teachers who are
used to being the content-matter experts in the classroom. Supporting
debugging, particularly in open-ended projects, means putting yourself in
situations where you won’t always have the answer.
- Adrienne: In next meeting, emphasize what K12 teachers would need from this
advanced cert.
