Proposed decisions
- Health insurance (details)
- Options:
- Empire plan PPO: Monthly family cost $450. Worldwide network (HMOs are
geographically-limited) $25/visit mental health.
- BlueCross BlueShield HMO: Monthly family cost $405. Lower copayments
for routine care. Worldwide coverage. $500 wellness debit card for
massages, health food, etc. $10/visit mental health.
- Independent Health Association: Monthly family cost $380. Lower
copayments for routine care. $20/visit mental health.
- Proposal: Empire plan and BlueCross BlueShield both look good, seem to
have a lot of providers.
- Dental care (details)
- There is no premium for either choice.
- Options:
- Dental PPO: 100% of diagnostic and preventative, down to 50% for major
work. $3k max per year. Choose any dentist in US.
- Dental HMO (DeltaCare USA): Generally lower copays but must go
in-network. When I searched for the highest-rated local dentists
none of them were part of the HMO plan.
- Proposal: PPO
- Retirement plan
- Options:
- Defined benefit (pension) options: ERS & TRS. Very similar, leaning
toward ERS for better sabbatical credit
- Defined contribution: ORP. Leaning against. Guaranteed pension
provides a backstop; we can make higher-variance (more risk, more
reward) investments elsewhere.
- Proposal: Choose ERS.
