Rhetoric of computation

  1. Analyze the way Unfold Studio supports computational meaning-making.

  2. Using Unfold Studio as an example, show the more general point that meaning-making is dependent on the material conditions of literacy. Today it happens in digital worlds, using computational media. Developing identity and voice in these worlds depends on engaging with the infrastructure. Ex: students love to write stories that use text messages, and which exist in the narrative worlds of social media and video games.

  3. Pedagogically, we advocate a literacy-based approach to teaching programming, the same way we teach grammar: in context, and responsive to students’ meaning-making needs.
