Untitled One theme of #SIGCSE2019 was the shift toward computational literacies. This framing provides access to badly-needed scholarship on literacies, identity, positioning, power. For example, there is a long-standing conversation about what English/Language Arts ought to be,
and the painful tradeoffs involved in teaching dominant language practices. No such conversation exists in K12 CS. We can shape what computer science is and what it means to be computationally literate.
I’d like to see an active rigorous ethical stance as the origin point of what it means to be a computer scientist. How can we deprecate plagiarism but not complicity in building weapons or amplifying hateful ideologies?
