Antero chapter brainstorm What is voice? It’s about expression. But if we take meaning to be based in a literacy space, successful articulation of voice also becomes about assembling the right context so that you will be heard properly. 

From Goodwin:  Lindstrom’s chapter, on the other hand, taking inspiration from Foucault’s work on technologies of power, suggests that the very act of interpretation, the evoking of some specific frame or context, is an act of power whereby participants try to establish what is acceptable evidence or truth, and what could be meant at any given time.

So part of voice means assembling a context. In a technological setting, this means choosing a platform (for example, Instagram), possibly choosing the surrounding content, and convening a suitable audience for the articulation of voice. Voice becomes an act of design. 

This makes voice dependent upon an understanding of interpretation. Insisting on a particular interpretation is an ideology. Interface is ideology. Interface is imposed on users. Therefore, criticality becomes about understanding the effect of interface, and perhaps pushing back or challenging interfaces. 

We are in a world of dialogism, in the sense intended by Bahktin. Our speech is constantly navigating contexts. Our speech increasingly has a life of its own. What I text my friend (or the photo I send) may be reposted elsewhere, made to mean something else, as with old tweets dredged up from the past and re-injected into new contexts. Snapchat’s breakthrough feature—self-destructing messages—offers the illusory promise of a simpler relationship with our language, one where speech lives only in the moment and the context intended. But what if your interlocutor takes a screenshot? What if there are others present when s/he retrieves the message? None of these are new issues, but their ubiquity results in a qualitative change in
