BB&A Final Project Discussions

BB&A Final Project Discussions Aashna, Jenny, Kylie

How novel is this?  A bit underdeveloped.  More conceptual than functional.  What they showed at crits was nothing related. They iterated a lot, but not very productively.  This will be Aashna’s LDT project.  How is this distinguished from Google Science Journal?

Allison, Annie, Tracey

Technically really impressive Physical design was really impressive too. Good iteration here: developing ideas for buttons.  Responded and followed up on to the tech critique: Nori’s observations about teaching photoshop Wanted to use a fidget for controlling the video. (Cass suggested getting rid of this) Did tech critique on video editor, this contributed to final project.  1on1: did a good job of incorporating feedback

Rich, Paulo met with them a lot…. lots of group problems.  the book is what made it work. Interesting late development.  Thought about the progression—the user’s experience, providing supports for use.

The physical design had some issues. Not that impressed with the physical part of it.  They did a lot of prototypes, magnets

Sound palette Rich doesn’t buy the argument that this helps you appreciate art. Liked the project. thought it was really weird and cool.  Wish the development process could have clicked a week or two earlier.  Got great feedback from Paul.  Would have liked to see the fundamental idea develop. This could have happened more with a lo-fi prototype earlier.  Would have been better full-screen.

Connie, Jasmine

Rich: the group that kinda broke my heart.  We were frustrated that they took our feedback too strongly, too willing to abandon ideas.  “The tires never caught until the last minute” Not really a design process Got pushed around / passive

Andrew, Daniela

May have been too guided by personal experience, there was an opportunity to engage more with theory.  Effective design process: the project grew.  The final product was simple, but had an elegance of simplicity that felt like the result of a mature design process.  Why was the physical link to the computer the right thing? How was this better than velcro?

Po, Diego

They seemed to be working independently on separate parts of the project. Seems like the concept would have developed more with an earlier integrated prototype.  Articulate the learning goals more. We didn’t see it very much.  Want to acknowledge a lot of growth in skills. What did making your own TUIO table contribute to the final project? (We know maybe it was in the service of research on how cheaply it could be made… In the crits, Paulo suggested trajectories, accumulating something.  Considering the cost of things is important, but it’s necessary to first find the right concept, and then figure out how to make it as low-cost as possible.

There’s design thinking, and then there’s making something work.
