Temporary notes

Temporary notes Hi friends,

I’m organizing a day trip to go rafting on the South Fork of the American River this Sunday. Any interest in joining? It will be a fun day of rafting ten miles through fun whitewater in the foothills of the Sierras.

Where? Coloma, CA, 2-2.5 hours’ drive from the bay area. I’ll be coming from Santa Rosa (and picking up the raft on the way), so you’ll need to figure out getting there.  Cost? We’ll ask you to chip in $20 for the cost of the raft rental.  Scary? Not really.  What to bring? A swimsuit, a hat, water bottle, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a lightweight long-sleeve shirt to keep the sun off. We’ll put together a lunch, but you might also consider bringing along a little snack.

You should be in generally good physical condition, and comfortable swimming. Class III rafting means some big whitewater, but still with minimal risk. I worked as a guide on this river for a couple of summers, and have a lot of experience on more substantial whitewater. I think the risk level is very moderate; it’s typical for big troops of 10-year old scouts to go down the river. Please keep in mind though, this is a noncommercial trip and nobody is making any guarantees. If you haven’t been rafting before and are interested but have some reservations, I’d be happy to talk more about it.

We can take up to about seven people, so please let me know if you’d like to join!
