Bryn email Hey Chris,
I understand that you have a limited number of spaces there and that, as our dear friend scotty said, you cannot change the laws of physics.
That being said, I did think that I should tell you that I’m very disappointed and hurt by how you went about organizing this situation. Not so much in terms of the decision itself (It probably won’t be that hard to find other housing, and you are certainly well within your rights to live with whomever you please) but in terms of how this decision was made. I feel a bit like I was led on and placed into a public, competitive, and non-transparent evaluative process that I neither asked for nor wanted. Placing me in this position (and anybody else you may have “rejected”) was unnecessary on your part (why didn’t you just wait until you knew how many spaces you had open and then discreetly ask people? Why did you have to make this a semi-public show of approval/disapproval?). It seems like you bartered my emotions for expedience and that feels terrible.
I don’t believe that any of this was intentional. You’re a good person and I know that you had nothing but the best intentions throughout this process, I just thought that I should be honest about my feelings and encourage you to perhaps have more regard for such things in the future.

Hi Bryn, I’m writing to let you know that we finished our meetings and unfortunately we’re not going to have room for you next year in Oberlin. We had a really tough decision because so few people are leaving after this year. If you’re still interested in living here this summer, let me know. I think we’ll have room, and I can let you know next week. Sorry. -Chris
