From the perspective of language producing social reality, I think Computer Science is interesting in two ways: we use programming as a metaphor for ‘natural language,’ and CS operationalizes and increasingly weaponizes many of the linguistic moves we have been talking about in this class. Computer Science positions itself as a highly abstract, decontextualized, and neutral field; I plan to investigate the semiotic ideologies with which we discuss and practice Computer Science, through an ethnography of computer science learners, paying particular attention to what they think they are doing when they do Computer Science and what they think Computer Science is for. This paper will be a conceptual framework and a methods section.
Jonathan’s challenge: what institutional processes can I focus on? A particular challenge I intend to take on is that I want this study to be legible to practitioners of Computer Science and CS Education.

Can I use Jonathan’s “raciolinguistic perspective?”
