Goffman: Footing The world is a stage, operationalized. “Every interaction is a situated performance”
Footing is the legitimated situatedness of a situated performance.
What roles are available, in what contexts
Footing: How you get traction in a frame. Voice: A token of a type, the musical sense. Aligning across frames. (Think transposition) Bakhtin: Realist reportage, realist literary fiction (could be understood to represent today’s everyday) How authors arrange voices of characters within a narrative to voice themselves. Read what’s said, and also read what’s done while said.
Enregisterment: the set of practices that are understood to correspond to a model of personhood, and how people (or other entities) are recruited to inhabit them. Implies naturalization. The creation of sets.
