What’s the goal CS247 Echo chamber implies that only one thing can be heard, implying that other points of view are outside the bubble, disconnected by some barrier. I challenge this image: it’s more that we have hegemonic ideologies that make other conversations impossible unless spaces are explicitly set up to shield against the hegemonic ideology. 

Make it possible for people holding hegemonic views to consider the possibility of engaging in other conversations. Likely: focus on the peripheries, human connections. 

The barriers are not outside us, they are inside us. 

Sergio: Get you to interact with other opinions rather than people who you assume are just different. Make them uncomfortable in a sense.  Dakin: For people on the periphery of an ideological event, helping them feel welcome.  Katie: Make people comfortable with hearing dissenting ideas.
