FabLearn Research Agenda notes
FabLearn Research Agenda notes Open Questions How do we want to partner with other parties at GSE? Shall we develop an external feedback plan? How shall we model “constructionist learning”? (Does critical pedagogy improve outcomes, like LDH recounts how teacher preparation programs benefit more from big-picture schema than microteaching moves?)
Constructionism Embodied cognition Situated learning Communities of practice Learning ecologies Computational literacy Culturally-sustaining pedagogy Freire Adaptive Expertise Deliberate practice
Notes: At Casti, pre-survey for teachers: 80% not planning to use it. 3-day workshop for teachers. Hired Angie lab manager Paulo met the teachers every week for 6 months (office hours model) What really helped was when the school started paying hours for Angie + teacher to plan a unit together.
The Model Time When is it open? Space
Culture Is novelty a factor? (What makes it sustainable?) Create a culture of innovation. Tools
People One highly capable lab manager who can interface with teachers. Plans Locally-generated curriculum, part of the school day for everyone. [Freire] Electives are good too.
Chris ToDo Talk with Angie or Diego at Casti How resource-dependent is this model? Frame Casti as pilot. By next week: Do what I can on the Constructionism paper. Remind Paulo about Debbie Fields → Taylor Martin
